About My Craft

The reason for my craft stems from my belief that as human beings, we enact a transformative power upon nature. The act of transforming nature into structures, tools, clothing, and other purposeful creations is done primarily to meet some kind of utility or need for us biologically and psychologically. In this act, we can choose to decorate, embellish, beautify, and make ornate what we have created.

It is my belief that when we transform nature in a way that reflects the beauty of creation, we are reflecting our apprehension of the higher principles of harmony, beauty, and aesthetics. By fashioning nature into new forms that embody beauty, we are demonstrating that we have a soul which is in touch with the divine. The principles of aesthetics, though objective, can be expressed in a multitude of ways, and it cannot be helped that the individual will imprint upon their craft a reflection of themselves, their life, and the peculiar details of where they live and what makes it unique. Through this, we imbue the product of our craft with more than simply a utilitarian end, we imbue it with meaning, history, culture, spirit, and significance.

To put it simply, I believe that the crafts of hand are the essence of what makes us human, and the way in which we choose to transform what we are given in nature is the very reflection of our soul.

In my own craft, my objective is to contemplate and attempt to reflect the principles of aesthetics and beauty in my work. I am interested in conveying my inner ideals, concepts, emotions, and stories through both symbolic and direct imagery. My vision is to tie together threads of culture, history, philosophy, and aesthetics from the Western tradition in my work in a way that develops forward from and builds upon the wisdom and skill of all people whom I admire that have done the same in the past. Most of all, I desire to create that which I do not yet see.
